From the day my baby is born I have them on a schedule. In the hospital I immediately will start my nursing schedule at the times I have planned out which for me are every 3 hours around the clock starting at 8am. I even will set my alarm in the hospital for the middle of the night feedings. One thing my husband and I completely agree on is that a baby thrives on a schedule and so do you! It is WAY easier to plan out your day knowing exactly what time your baby will eat and nap. Now do somedays just not work like this, yes of course! But the majority of the days do! I follow a book called babywise that talks about wake times and sleep times. in short it goes like this: Feed, awake time, sleep time. Then repeat.
I highly recommend a schedule as it really makes your life easier and it makes for a happy baby. I do not think it's a coincidence that all 5 of my babies have been easy babies who slept 12 hours at night and take good naps during the day.
