Every saturday is chore day in my house. I have 2 mason jars one says "chores" the other one says "finished chores" The one that says chores has by color for each kid a chore on a popsicle stick. When the kid finishes that chore they put it into the finished chore mason jar. All of my kids have chores (except my preemie). I have picked age appropriate chores for my kids. I feel that it is extremely important to have your kids do chores weekly. It teaches them to work hard. It teaches them that we all work together to make this family run. It teaches them responsibility. Last saturday I came downstairs at 8 am and all my kids had finished their chores, I couldn't believe it! My oldest son had encouraged the younger ones and they all followed his good leadership!
You can't do it all! This is one way of allowing them to be apart of the family and lessen your load. Will they do it exactly like you would? No, of course not. But I am not having the Queen of England to visit any time soon, so I just correct them if they do it wrong and then accept their efforts. Do NOT ever redo what they have done in front of them. If you think they did not work hard and do a good job then train them and teach them to what your standard is. Let this always be an uplifting and encouraging thing that they can feel good about.
