Wash the artichokes with a vegetable wash. Place in a steamer or a pot with holes over another larger pot full of water. The water should not be soaking the artichokes at all. Place the artichokes in the pot/steamer. Juice the lemons over each artichoke then throw the rest of the lemon into the pot. Drizzle olive oil over each artichoke. Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder and dried onions. Put the lid on the pot and steam for 45 minutes or until one of the leaves comes off easily and is tender. Serve with melted butter or mayonnaise or basil tomato salsa (recipe below).
Tomato Basil Salsa 3 Roma Tomatoes (chopped in cubes) 3 TBS chopped fresh basil Pink Himalayan Sea Salt to taste Fresh cracked black pepper to taste 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice
Place all ingredients in a bowl and toss together. Serve over your artichoke or on the side to dip your artichoke in.
